The Ladybug at The Houston Zoo with Uncle Frank and Mimi

First I have to commend Uncle Frank for going to the zoo with us today, he is a trooper.  Yesterday afternoon he graduated from high school, then he went to Pro-Grad last night and got home a little after six this morning.  He took about a two hour nap, got up and went to the zoo with his niece :)  Frank was not coax, begged, or bribed; he did it because he wanted to and he was awesome the whole time we were there :)

We got to the zoo about 10:30 and hit the ground running, saw the sea lions (from Uncle Frank's shoulders because that is the best seat!).  Then it was off to see some birds and look for the giraffes and the elephants, Safi had an agenda.

We found the giraffes and got up close and personal with them.  Safi fell in love with one of the babies and said, "I buy it!"  I tried to tell her no, Doodle wouldn't like it, she really didn't care.  We were able to settle on a stuffed giraffe from the gift shop that she hung on to for the rest of the day.

The carousel ride that almost didn't happen, Safi started screaming when she and Uncle Frank first got on, but once they got going she was good with it!  Great, now we are going to have to stop at the one in the mall (ah, man!)

Watusi, gorillas, rhinos, zebras, ostrich, all kinds of animals, we had a great time but the Ladybug was getting hot so we headed to the reptile house to do a couple of laps in there.

Snakes and lizards are always a hit with the Ladybug!!  And the cool air is a hit with everyone :))

The Ladybug Does High School Graduation

Today Uncle Frank and Aunt Mad graduated from Foster High School!!!!

Safi and I woke up bright and early and got on the road so we would make it in time for the 2:00pm graduation (I had gone to Wimberley's graduation the night before).  We got to Mimi's about noon time changed clothes and were back in the car headed to the Merill Center in Katy.  Stuck in a traffic jam for over an hour we finally made it just in time to see Uncle Frank get off the bus and wave at Aunt Mad who was still stuck on the bus! :)

Safi was great during the ceremony, she sat and entertained herself for the two hours with her phone or watching other people around her.  At one point we did have to get up to go to the bathroom (which was a pain since we were sitting in the middle of the row), but all was fine!!

Got a couple of pictures of Uncle Frank but a butthole stood up just as Aunt Mad was walking across the stage so I have nothing of her :(  hope he got some good ones of his kid.

Wimberley Graduation

The Ladybug stayed home for the ceremony (it was at 8:00pm in San Marcos) but she was there in pictures.  My phone got a workout during the ceremony showing off all of the latest pictures and videos, everyone wanted to see what she has been up to and how much Safi has grown!!

It was so great to get to see how well my old students have done in school and to hear about their plans for after high school.  I feel lucky to have been apart of their lives and can't wait to hear about all of the great things that they do in the future.

The greatest joy that I had tonight was when Alec McKelvey walked into the room to cheers and hollers, screams and shouts.  He had the biggest smile on his face and was waving to everyone like he was the only one in the room.  It was such a contrast to the scared, shy boy that walked into my room years ago.  The boy that I wanted so bad for him to be accepted by his peers and for him to accept his peers.  The day that he walked out Bowen I knew that he was on his way but I was still scared for him.  Looking back I don't know why I was, he has the vigilant mother on his side and she will expects only the best from him and anyone around him for that matter, which she should.  I don't think that a day has gone by that I have not thought about Alec and his family.  Some people just make that big of an impact on you.

I am honored to say that I played a small roll in Alec's life, and I can only hope that I can continue to be in it to see the great accomplishments that he will make throughout the rest of his life.

More Zoos WOOHOOO

Not sure if you have figured it out, the Ladybug LOVES animals :)  We have been to the Austin Zoo way too many times to count.  When we went to San Antonio we had to go to the zoo, she actually asked, "Zoo?"  So, Safi and I made a road trip up to Waco, I had heard that it was a really cool zoo and that the exhibits were great because the kids could see the animals easily.

The Cameron Park Zoo is pretty cool, too bad I think we picked the hottest most humid day of the year to go!! However, we got to see Buffie, Megan, and Andrew!!! Buffie was my neighbor in San Antonio, we both moved away about the same time only she moved to Seattle and I just moved down the road to Austin.  Both of us picked up a little extra baggage along the way (she already had a husband), a dog, and we each have beautiful girls!!!!  Andrew got new orders and is now at Fort Hood, she they are back in Texas and just down the road :)

We met up at the zoo and the girls seemed to have a good time despite the heat.  Safi loved the animals!!!!

Hanging in the Backyard with a Ladybug

This has been a busy month so far.......

Safi had a little fever at the beginning of the month that seemed to drag on and her running nose kept her down awhile so we spent some quiet time inside playing with trains and laying low.

Safi and Chris have built some really cool tracks and we have even had to go back to the store for more tracks.  Chugga Choo Choo!!

Mother's day was just around the corner so I went out for a cooking class with my friend Linda while Chris and Safi did a little sneaking around.  I was gone for a couple of hours and came back after bedtime.  Let's just say Daddy was glad to see Mommy!!!  The stories slowly came out about how Safi got out the front door (she was completely naked at the time) and ran around the side of the house and was pounding on the gate yelling "MOMMA, MOMMA, MOMMA!!"  Something about peeing in the backyard, and I'm sorry your Mother's Day present didn't come out how it was supposed to, but it is really hard crafting with a two year old.  Chris didn't have any trouble falling asleep that night ;)

My first Mother's Day was wonderful, Safi woke up at 6:00am, I rolled over and asked Chris to go whisper some sweet nothings to her and make her go back to sleep.  He said, "I'll just go put some rum in her milk cup and all will be good." Then he rolled over.  Chris did go and deal with her and I got to sleep in a bit more.  It was a wonderful day spent with my family, I am so blessed.

This week we have celebrated Jules' birthday, finished recuperating, worked in the yard, continued with the job search, and just all around had a good time.  Life is good.  The garden is growing and the flowers that Safi and I planted from seed are beginning to bloom.

The Zinnias all have blooms on them!! I can't wait to have fresh cut flowers in the house again!!

The potatoes are growing like weeds, "Night, Night, eat ya later!"

Tomatoes!!!

Before and After......These strawberries are gone by the way, Safi ate them as soon as I took the picture :)

The mimosa tree is growing and full of blooms!  The lilacs are going crazy as well!!

Yummy Squash is just around the corner :)

Carrots!!

Yes, we will have a bumper crop of Cucumbers again this year, but they will be on a trellis, not laying on the ground

Bell peppers! The ladybugs have been hanging out around here :)
This afternoon we hung out in the backyard and enjoyed the beautiful day.....

 And then we starting swinging.......

So Safi was squirting me with the water bottle, I didn't have a water bottle, but I did have a cup of ice water :)  So I put a piece of ice down her pants :)))

I got the ice out for her........
 Then she ate it :(

Then I got out the new pool and blew it up. As I was finishing I look over and Safi has taken her pants and undies off and is trying to get in the pool. I asked her if she wanted to go swimming, "Yes" So we set the pool up with the slide slipped on a swimsuit and Safi went to town.  She played in the pool and on the slide for at least another 30-45 minutes.
