Texas A&M Here We Come

A&M college visit with Frank and Safia. She was a trooper! All day in the car or the stroller and no complaining. Safi slept maybe 30 min and that was in the stroller during the last part of our walking tour.

Baking Fun

Today we bake, after story time at the library of course. She is getting into story time, Safia loves watching people and the things going on around her. Just about the ti e she starts getting into the movements it is over with. Oh well, there is always next week :)

Baking, the girl loves to help, so this was interesting. She sat in her high chair and helped me measure and dump things into the mixer. Safia lasted longer than I had expected her to, and of course she wanted to sample everything. But she didn't go overboard, sweets don't seem to be her thing.

Back Porch Fun

Low key day at home. Safia helped me in the garden with the flowers. She also played in the fountain, with the water table, chalk, lawn mower (toy), and the balls. Lunch time and then we spent a little more time with my dad and step mom.

After nap it was back outside (hard to keep her Inside). With her fair skin we are sure to put plenty of sunscreen on so Safia doesn't burn. Safia and I played outside and Chris went to puck up food from Chuy's for dinner.

Safia likes chips and salsa, and creamy jalapeƱo! She has not turned away food yet, except of course the canned fruit. After dinner we couldn't get back outside fast enough.

For desert Safia had a frozen fruit bar outside, she ate that like a pro, and she ate the whole thing! Chris and I were eating some fresh watermelon, she wanted that also. We finally had to cut her off. I felt bad, but I thought she was going to pop :(. Safia sure loves watermelon.

This morning we went to the farmer's market. I have been wanting to go and with Safia eating fresh fruits and veggies it was a good excuse to go. She seemed to love it, sat in the stroller with her juice and people watched. Safia was just soaking it all in.

My dad and stepmom came into town this weekend so they came over after nap and hung out. We all played and read books. The family went out to dinner, Safia had a blast. Again with the people watching and entertaining Chris and my dad.

We came home and hung out on the back porch, Safia loves to be outside and the yard is a wonderful place to be in the late afternoon/evening. She kicked the ball around, played with the water table and got in and out of the pool.

Today we picked up Chris from the airport. He was out of town on business this week and worried that Safia would forget who he was, no Safia knew exactly who he was when he got in the car.

We came home and played outside for a bit. Chris took a nap and Safia and I went for a walk on one of the trails at the park. We had stir fry for dinner and played outside in the pool after dinner til almost dark.

Bath, book, and bed. This has been our ritual since the first day and has really seemed to work. Safia really seems to like it when we are all together reading so Chris and I make a point for the three of us to read together each night.

Another full night of sleep!

Pancakes with raspberries for breakfast.

A little Seasame Street, lots of playing, reading books, building with blocks, trying to sing the ABCs....all in a morning, oh and a walk with the dogs.

We played in the backyard after nap in the little pool, kicking the ball around (hope Frank didn't knock a window out, this is not a real soccer game), blowing more bubbles, and of course stirring up the dogs.

Dinner...chicken,rice,corn,edamame...ate it all

Took the dogs for a walk and talked/sang the whole time.

Did Safia sleep through the night? YES!!!!!!

Slow morning just hanging out, playing with the dogs and toys.

We ran to Target to get Father's day cards to mail off and some other things, then home for lunch and nap.

Safia and I went to the pool this afternoon and she loved it. She was a little hesitant arou d the water feature (giant mushroom with water coming over the top) but I'm sure that at that size and age I would be too :). So we stuck to just playing with some toys and swimming around the rest of the pool in a toob.

We came home and played some more in the backyard, had to try out the new addition to the patio, and it meets Safia's approval. Checked on the garden and sniffed some of the flowers that are beginning to bloom. Of course, we also blew bubbles.

It was grilled turkey and cheese sandwiches with carrots for dinner. She loved it, but then again she has eaten everything we have put in front of her.

Bath,book,and was another good day

Just Bumming Around

2:00am-4:00am wide awake :(. This is just a phase we will figure this out

Off to the doctor this morning to check out the rash that has come and gone.  Good news, she says it was just a heat rash, no worries.

Lunch at home with Chris, a nap and then it is time to take him to the airport for a business trip.

Home for dinner, playing with the shopping cart collecting things around the house, blowing bubbles outside, checking out the veggies.

Gotta walk the doggies, tonight Safia had to hold both of the dog's leashes while we walked.  She is adorable and seems to really be getting along with them.

Bath time was not as smooth, but I think it had something to do with the fact that she was exhausted.

Book, and bedtime.

A Quiet Day at Home

I think Safia has a clock in her that goes off at 2:00am. 2 hours up in the middle of the night.

Today we stayed at home and played, cleaned, and just hung out.  Safia help me dust, Chris and Safia played with the sit n spin, building blocks, and stacking rings.

After nap we played outside in the little pool, splashed the dogs, blew bubbles, and played in the fountain.  They were having a great time, I picked veggies and herbs from the garden to use in the spaghetti for dinner.

Walks after dinner have become routine and about 7:30 each evening both of the dogs and Safia start looking for shoes and leashes.  Our walks usually last about 25-30 minutes. Tonight I think we only made it about 10 minutes before Safia started her "off in a distance" stare so we headed home.

Bath, a book, and off to bed :). A wonderful day of play!

First Birthday Party

Last night we were up at 2:00am and were wide awake till about 4:00am.  Safia slept in till 9:00. We had yogurt, granola, and raspberries for breakfast.  Then it was playtime :)

We had a birthday party to go to this afternoon and Safia got along well with the other kids.  A lot of our friends have kids her age so she had plenty of new friends her own age to play with.  After the party it was naptime and Safia was tuckered out :). Safia took a 3 hour nap and could have slept longer, but it was 5:15 and I wanted her to be able to sleep tonight.

After snack we played in the backyard with the dogs.  Chris used sidewalk chalk and drew on the porch with Safia, and they blew bubbles.  Together they cooled off by splashing around in the fountain.

After a yummy dinner, bath time, which has been going better, no tears and we sat down tonight :). Plenty of splashing and playing.

A book, and it is time for bed.  Safia is a squirmy worm when we first sit down but she settles in and about the middle of the book she is totally into it.  She loves to sit and look at books and she is very gentle with them.

Usually there is no fussing, very little sound coming from Safia when it is time to go to sleep.  If there is anything it is her singing.

A Rough Day

Today was a good day. We went to Austin radiological and had her skeletal x-rays done, that was pain to participate in, but we both survived.  Afterward we went by the studio and ran around to show off our cuteness.

Safia has been eating well, lots of fruits and veggies,  broccoli, raw carrots, corn, raspberries, fresh peaches, grapes, watermelon, squash, zucchini, chicken, pasta, scrambled eggs, yogurt, turkey.  She is eating the same meals that we do. And has not turned down anything except some canned fruit cocktail.

Her bowel movements have returned to normal.  After using a glycerin suppository on Tuesday night along with plenty of fruits and veggies in her diet things are better on track.

Safia did develop a rash around her neck yesterday (Thursday) morning. The doctor said to put hydrocortisone cream on it and come in on Monday morning.  It has gotten better.  It does seem to show up when she gets hot so it might have something to do with the heat.

She is smiling and laughing, and seems to be adjusting well.  When we are around others she is comfortable but will go only to either Chris or myself, she does not want to go to others.

Sweet success when it came to bath tonight.  I put some water in our tub (a garden tub) and took off Safia's diaper, I just put her in the tub in her dress.  She fussed a bit, but we started splashing and playing with the toys and she was fine.  I used the wash cloth to get her wet and was able to take her dress off. Safia laughed and giggled.  Bath time was a happy time tonight :)

Safia Enters Our World

Yesterday we received a phone call asking if we would be interested in a 23 month old little girl. Caroline was finally able to get out that it would be a short term foster (2 weeks) that could turn into more.  The little girl was in the office and they would like to place her with Chris (Daddy) and I, but first the agency had to obtain our license number from CPS.

I waited all day long for the call to come that the number had assigned and we could pick up our beautiful little girl.  However, at 4:00pm the call was to say that there was no number yet and that she would be staying with another family for the night.  The goal being that as soon as our license number was obtained we could pick her up :)

So last night Chris and I lay in bed making a game plan of what stores we would hit and in what order.  Our plan had to be tight because we didn't know how much time we had and there was soooo much to do.  What had I been doing all of these months?  I had a bed and some sheets, that was about it.  We needed a car seat, stroller, girl toys, sippy cups, diapers, wipes, you name it we did not have it!!!

I don't think either one of us slept that night, and I think that Frank was a tad bit excited as well.  He was staying with us also and was going to be an Uncle!!!  This morning we hit the road early and set out to Babies R Us and Target.  We filled up the truck and then had to go home to unload and let Frank start putting stuff together, shelves, hampers, hang pictures on the wall, and start washing blankets and towels.  My nesting period lasted a morning!!!

Heather called at 12:30 and wanted us to come pick up Safia in south Austin at 1:30.  Chris fought with the car seat trying to get it all put together correctly and put in the car securely.  His precious cargo must be safe.  We pulled out of the driveway around 1:10 pm (not enough time to get to our destination).  Little did I know it would be a sign of things to come (always seeming to run a little behind).

We finally arrived, went over some paperwork and then we went upstairs and woke Safia up from her nap.  She was all curled up in her little Ladybug style (on her belly with her feet tucked up under her).  Safi was a little shy in the beginning but starting warming up to Mommy (me).  We left and headed to McDonalds were Safi taught us how to drink bar b que sauce, use a french fry as a serving tool for the sauce, and show us just how adorable she is.

Target was the next destination, now that we knew how big she was for a fact we could buy some clothes.  Safia is a shopper and she has Daddy wrapped around her little finger, she pointed and he put it in the basket, our third basket from Target for the day!!!

The new family jumped in the car and headed for the doctor's office so that we could get the all is good seal of approval, then it was time to head home. We finally made it home around 7:00pm that night.

Safia just seemed to take a sigh of relief when she walked in the door, Safi slept through the night and just fit in.  Our daughter is home.
